ACTIVITIES AND TOURS FOR THE DAY

Guided tour in the old town centre of Asti, a town with a glorious Medieval past. Starting from Piazza Vittorio Alfieri, reminding the famous writer born in Asti in 1749, we will go to the Collegiate church of Saint Secondo, an excellent example of Gothic Piedmontese architecture, than the Town Hall, made in the Eighteenth century by the great architect Benedetto Alfieri. Among towers and fortified Medieval houses, we will pass through the ancient Jewish ghetto up to Piazza Roma, then the Baroque buildings in Corso Alfieri, like Ottolenghi Palace, Mazzetti Palace and Alfieri Palace. Next stop at the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the biggest Gothic monument in Piedmont and, in the end, stop at the famous Torre Rossa, a tower founded by Romans, and Troyana Tower, the highest tower in the town. Stop at Moncalvo village, historical town of Monferrato marquises’ lands. Don’t miss the ancient parish of Saint Francesco, founded in the XIII century, and the baroque confraternity church of Saint Antonio, decorated by the precious Seventeenth – century paints made by Guglielmo Caccia, known also as “Moncalvo”. Ancient alleys, small squares, Medieval buildings and small shops of typical products are still surrounded by the bastions of Gonzaga’s Castle, where you can appreciate a special panoramic sight. In Casorzo, stop at a famous local winery, to discover Barbera d’Asti and Barbera del Monferrato, and “dulcis in fundo” the Malvasia di Casorzo, a wine made by a local aromatic vine variety with a red berry and an unique fragrance of roses, with flavors of white peach, wild strawberry and raspberry. Visit to the wine cellar and taste.

Relax of senses and pleasures of the table at a local restaurant that proposes for the occasion: “Stufato al Barbera d’Asti” and “Torta pere e nocciole Piemonte” in a Taste Menu based on typical recipes of the place.
